5 Mess Free Healthy On The Go Snacks Snacks

Im a huge snacker - whether it be on the go or with a cup of tea mid afternoon. Sometimes, I find myself snacking my way through the day (Im a poet) and it will get to tea time and I wont want a proper meal, oops. 

But, it is so easy to grab a chocolate bar, a packet of crisps or some other unhealthy snack, that although may be delicious now, it wont keep you full for longer and the cycle will be repeated. However, recently, Ive seen a huge increase in the range of healthy snacks that are available in supermarkets etc.

So, as it is the month of back to school, I thought Id compile a list of some of my favourite go-to snacks. Also, they are mess free which is always a bonus especially if you are taking them on the go. Whos got time to open that tub of hummus and start dipping those carrots?!

Energy Bars/Ball

These homemade goodies are everywhere on pinterest! There are so many recipes and flavours to choose from. They are perfect for making at the weekend to be stored in the fridge for the week and grabbed whenever you feel peckish or packed in some tupperware for on the go. Here are some recipes which look delicious:

• Peanut butter date bites
• Blueberry muffin energy balls
• Coconut date energy bites
• Apricot chia energy bars
• Oatmeal superfood breakfast bars

Trek Protein Bars

If you dont have time to make your own, or youre just too lazy to (Im guilty of that more often than not), then these protein bars* from trek are perfect! With them being a packed with vegan protein, up to 10g (Im no expert on that kind of stuff, but I know thats very good), they are super filling. Seriously, whenever Im hungry and tuck into one of these, I find Im not hungry for a good 3 hours at least. Plus, because they are packaged, it means even less mess.

These bars of deliciousness are also:
• Wheat free
• Gluten free
• Transfats free
• GM free
• Vegan friendly

The guys over at Nature Balance Foods very kindly sent a mixed box of the flapjacks to try - Ive got to say that my favourite would probably have to be the cocoa coconut, simply because it tastes like a bounty. But they are all delicious! Also, I love the idea of buying a large mixed box as it is, not only convenient, but also works out cheaper.

One last thing, I found the best before thing quite funny.

Rice Cakes

Not just any rice cakes, baby rice cakes. Yes, you heard me. You need to head to the baby food isle in the supermarket and pick up a bag or two of their flavoured rice cakes. My favourite are the berry ones! Plus, because they are made for toddlers, they dont have anything bad or harmful in them.

Fruit

This is an obvious one but its a great one to add to the list. Personally, I always opt for bananas - not only because they are my favourite fruit, but because they dont really cause much mess. Well, I say they dont cause much mess but if you dont put them in a tupperware box then you run the risk of having it become squished all over the other items in your bag; trust me, Ive had that happen to me on multiple occasions. 

Another reason I go for bananas is that they are the most filling, have one or two and youre good to go for a good while. Whereas with things like apples, youd have to eat quite a lot as I tend to get hungry 15 minutes later after eating one.

Dried Fruit

Having dried fruit to hand is brilliant! Because its like eating a healthy sweet (that actually tastes good). Dried figs are probably my favourite option and sometimes dates - plus, if you eat a good handful, they are quite filling.

6 step to start your website project

Regardless of size, building a Web site is similar to building a house. There are many decisions to make along the way, most vendors will try to sell the owners on more than they need, and if one is not careful, the project can end up costing more than anticipated. However, when executed properly, a marketer with little technical knowledge can step away with an effective and appropriate Web site for his/her industry by following a few simple guidelines.

Whether you’ve hired an external marketing firm to assist you with these steps or you’re working directly with a Web design firm, at a minimum the following guidelines should be observed when approaching a Web site project.

Identify Your Target Market

The Internet is so exciting we all want to jump on this gravy train and make things happen, but the cutting edge isn’t for every market, and some technologies may look cool but are useless to your mission. Taking some time to think about who you are targeting with your Web site, and how you would like to steer them towards doing business with you will assist you in identifying your goals and become a reference point for all subsequent decisions.

Examine your target market’s approach to the Web and your content.
The Internet provides a uniquely intimate experience in which the site visitor chooses the direction of the information in a non-linear fashion. The site visitor is not bound by pages in a book. S/he can only make decisions based upon the following:

1. What do I need?
2. What are the choices?
3. What is my past experience?

This means that regardless of how you usually consider your product or service offerings, it’s more important than ever to consider those items from the client perspective. Take time to think about how your various targets will approach your Web site – what information will they seek? Is this an existing client? A prospective client? What keywords will this person look for? What keywords are meaningful to that target group? What is their experience with the Web thus far?

Determine Goals and Strategies

After completing the above steps, then decide on some reasonable goals for your Web site. What tactics and strategies will you implement to meet those goals? For example, a goal might be to provide current departmental information on the Web site to keep prospective students up to date on the latest course offerings and department changes. A college may wish to encourage more teacher participation in updating the Web site, but other than providing them with the technology to do so, how will you inspire them and market to this group to make their involvement in the college feel interesting and not just another task? Some of these questions may get complex, and your project may slow down here because it’s not fun. However, more time in this area will enable you to save money in the long run and increase your satisfaction with the final Web site.

Get Buy-In

Bring all your decision makers together and let them know what you’re planning. Let them give you their input. If they disagree with some of your choices, you can back up your choices with something they don’t have – research. Your ideas are not based on feelings, they’re based on fact, and that’s powerful. However, the other stakeholders in the Web site might have some good ideas. Maybe they want to get increased benefit from the Web site, too, like an intranet, or automated email notification. Listen to these ideas and consider them carefully.

Evaluate Needs

Now that you know what you want your Web site to do, you can figure out what technology is out there to do it with. This will inevitably cause some revisions to the previous step, as creative vendors will inform you of applications and opportunities you may not have thought of before. That’s okay - you will not be led astray by the temptation of the super highway when all you needed was a 2 lane road. But you will be able to appreciate the input and take time to consider if this option fits your target market’s approach to your Web site.

Identify Vendors

If you’ve been diligent about the above process, it’s time to consider your vendors – which will be really easy to do now that you know what you need. Then it becomes a matter of comparing facts in a matrix – does company X provide this feature or not? At what cost? Then the choice is less about having lots of features and more about having the right ones that fit your goals.

A Batch Of Birthday Cupcakes

Happy new year! I hope you all had a wonderful 2014 - I feel like Im still stuck in 2012. Whether you where in full blown party mode or asleep by 9pm, Id love to know how you spent new years eve. Also have you made any resolutions/goals for the new year, I shared mine the other day in this post.

Usually, on new years we have another big meal like at Christmas and, since its also my brothers birthday on the 1st January, it means more cake. The food galore continues! But as we still have half a Christmas cake left, a big box of biscuits and a years worth supply of chocolate, I opted to baked a small batch of cupcakes. I thought Id share this little bake with you.

I mainly used the Healthier Mini Vanilla Cupcakes from EatGood4Life, but halved the recipe which made 8 cupcakes. However, I think I put a little too much in each case and I could of made an extra one - which would have been perfect as my brother turned 9. I also went half and half using brown and white sugar.  

Measurements I used :

• 1 cup whole wheat flour
• 1/3 cup white sugar
• 1/3 cup brown sugar
• 1/2 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1 egg
• 1/8 cup melted coconut oil
• 1/2 cup almond milk
• 1 tsp vanilla essence 

Lets face it this is what baking for the majority of people looks like, well I hope its not just me, spilling the mixing everywhere. 

Also, there was some left over chocolate in the cupboard, from making Christmas treat gifts. So I half filled the cupcake cases, melted down the chocolate, placed a spoonful of chocolate in the centre of each case and then put another spoonful of cake batter on top. They turned out wonderfully. I think this is a brilliant little go to recipe and can easily be jazzed up by simply adding some icing.
